Recent researches have shown that the Enterprise Internet of Things (IoT) is on the path of rapid growth. Here are the new trends that companies should know from Proente:

The past few years, the network of wireless smart devices that provide wireless communications over the internet, or in other words Internet of Things, showed an increase. Even though the media attention is more focused on consumer goods, the most exciting innovations in the Internet of Things, allow companies, which are a combination of sensor data and sophisticated analytic algorithms, to streamline their business processes, increase productivity, and develop leading-edge products.

However, as in any emerging sector, IoT faces many uncertainties regarding regulatory developments, customer demand, and technological advancements. As many of the companies are still in the early stages of implementation, it leaves question marks on their benefits and usability. Until now, companies have made very rare benefits in the name of their initiatives. As a result, managers are cautious about investing in IoT. Few companies have made large-scale initiatives for new products and service delivery.

Our Research Method

However this may change very soon. We recently began to investigate business world leaders’ acceptance of the Enterprise Internet of Things, including the difficulties that prevented enterprises from making more extensive efforts.

The results of the first participants have enabled us to identify trends which suggest that the Enterprise Internet of Things is ready for strong growth as it improves customer experience, improves productivity, and enables the development of innovative products and services.

Enterprise Internet of Things is gaining momentum

Despite a relatively recent development of entrepreneurial entrepreneurship, 98 percent of respondents reported that most companies in the industry included Enterprise Internet of Things initiatives in their strategic roadmaps for improving service practices, increasing visibility, enabling new business models, and developing recruitment models. There are a lot of new program examples in this area. For instance, an elevator company is creating an IoT-enabled services package to increase the reliability of its products and reduce the duration of downtime. In addition to lowering operating costs for company customers, these applications can potentially change the business model.

Participants in the survey had a positive approach on the Enterprise Internet of Things. 92 percent stated that they would have a positive impact in the next three years, either by improving practices or allowing companies to develop new products with IoT capabilities. At the end of the next development, it may turn into higher incomes. Equally important, 62 percent of the participants stated that the influence of Entreprise Internet of Things will be either very high or leading the future.
This means that it can provide much more benefits than the modest improvements seen up to now. Participants also reported that senior managers recognized the potential value of IoT and 48 percent stated that their company leaders strongly support IoT initiatives or make IoT initiatives.

The Entrerprise Internet of Things can Provide Great benefits in manufacturing and service process.

Enterprise IoT can help to improve multiple functions. When asked which department would benefit the most, 40 percent of respondents chose service operations, whereas 30 percent chose the manufacturing sector which led them take the lead. Respondents believe that Enterprise IoT will provide the most value in these three areas: diagnostics and prognostics, predictive maintenance, and monitoring and control. In manufacturing, the best use cases were source and process optimization (eg increasing efficiency, productivity, and energy consumption), asset utilization, and quality management. Challenges in Enterprise IoT continue.

Despite these encouraging findings, our research also revealed some worrying reasons – especially about how companies use the Internet of Things. Participants have a common sense that information received from the Internet of Things sensors is invaluable. 60 percent of participants, thus stated that it could provide significant information about customer demographics and shopping patterns, however, 54 percent claimed that companies use only 10 percent or less of this information. This data corresponds to the information obtained from the study fields. For example, in a gas rig, managers use only 1 percent of the data from the ship’s 30,000 sensors when making decisions on maintenance planning.

As a result of our researches and survey, we also found out that there is a serious capacity gap that could limit the potential of the IoT. Some of these are related to the sensor data we have mentioned above. Participants helped us to describe the difficulties businesses typically have in data extraction, management, and analysis. However, the implementation problems emerged in other areas. For example, 70 percent of participants stated that companies do not yet integrate “IoT” solutions into existing workflows. In other words, companies do not use Enterprise IoT to optimize their daily tasks. The participants also indicated that companies were having difficulty in determining and prototyping the use of IOT applications.

These gaps in competence can be difficult to eliminate because companies often focus on managing a single IoT program. With such a narrow focus, they do not think of the big picture, including the organizational capabilities and change management programs needed to launch large-scale initiatives. This problem may be less noticeable as more businesspeople begin to recognize the value of IoT and place more emphasis on capability building. We are also optimistic that more companies will endeavor to include IoT in their daily activities as its benefits become clearer. Several people already reported strong gains in this direction. For example, Boeing employees now use pluggable IoT and extended reality tools in wiring harness assembly lines, which provides a 25 percent improvement in productivity.

Findings of our preliminary research contribute to be optimistic on the development of Enterprise “Internet of Things”. Participants clearly believe in this power and companies are showing their support by investing more in Enterprise Internet of Things intiatives. With this shift, “Enterprise Internet of Things” may bring a much more transformative change compared to the improvements seen so far in terms of increased productivity, increased customer experience, and creation of innovative products. In order to gain this momentum, managers have to highlight the Internet of Things more and more during the capacity building programs and when planning their workflows. Such efforts will help the Enterprise IoT take root and become a tool for transformative change – and that is what we really want to see.
